What draws the attention of the audience of a portrait is the eyes. I believe a great photographer can bring someone’s character through their eyes. Whenever I have an assignment, this is always in my head: "How can I tell stories through the camera?"
I remember when I was young, I read a lot of photo books and magazines. A Japanese photographer, Yoshihiko Ueda, caught my attention. The lighting he used was very subtle but created a special mood I haven't found in any other’s work. That was the moment I wanted to imitate his pictures and techniques. Decades later, I can’t find anyone who can replace his unique work.
